A Jungle of Ikebana Wires (1985)
Created for Ryuseiha annual exhibition
Matsuzakaya Department Store (Ueno, Tokyo)
In the mid-1980s, Ohtsubo produced a series of works using intricately tangled thin wire. The motif came from a childhood habit of his daughter, who often wound strands of her black hair tightly around her fingers, leaving small tangles scattered under her desk. Ohtsubo did not discourage the habit but found it interesting and used it in his work.
Material: Floral wire, shaved wood
